Counselling for life’s turning points and difficult times

Support for times of change — when endings, beginnings, and uncertainty bring questions about who you are and what’s next.

Hi, I’m David Houliston, a humanistic counsellor working in Chichester alongside adults who feel lost, overwhelmed, or out of touch with their inner self.

Feeling stuck or disconnected?

  • Starting or losing a job

  • Divorce or relationship changes

  • Becoming a parent

  • Losing a loved one

  • Retirement

  • Dealing with a life-changing diagnosis

  • Moving or learning to live independently

  • Experiencing a change in identity, such as exploring gender identity

Many of the people I work with have spent years coping, achieving, or doing what was expected of them — but now those ways of living feel heavy, empty, or somehow not true anymore.

From the outside, life might look fine: work, relationships, responsibilities all managed. But inside, you might feel numb, lonely, or disconnected — from yourself or from others.

Often, the patterns that once helped you survive are now the very things that leave you wondering who you are beneath the surface.

I work with adults and young people who feel stuck, anxious, low, or unsure of themselves, helping them gently explore what’s going on underneath and reconnect with who they really are.

How counselling can help

In our work together, I offer a steady, compassionate space to explore these questions and understand how you learnt to cope in the ways you did. We will reflect on how those early patterns continue to shape your life, relationships, and sense of self, and gradually support you in building a way of living that feels more real, connected, and alive.

I offer a free 20-minute introductory call to help you decide whether counselling is right for you — a simple, pressure-free way to see if we’re a good fit.
